Acting Associate Dean, Teaching and Learning

I am currently acting in the ADT&L hotseat. Here are a couple of updates of important things on the teaching and learning front that have come up in my brief term in the role.

T1 Start: AI and Atrium

A couple of important reminders as we head into Trimester 1. First, please be sure to have a clear statement about allowable (or not) AI use in your assessments in MyLearn in accordance with your School’s practices – I have been told that appeals being upheld where such a statement is absent (even if there were directions given in lectures).

Second, please do make use of Atrium to reach out to disengaged students in the first week of term (and subsequently). It is vitalto try to minimise attrition as much as we can, and the data shows that Atrium outreach does assist in this regard.

Communities of Practice and Academic Development

Four institution-wide communities of practice – evolving out of those that commenced last year, will start meeting in weeks 4 and 5 (Tech and Gen AI; Unit and Course Design; Retention and Engagement; Course Coordinators) – keep an eye out for further information. In addition, watch for details on the Academic Development program, that will include seminars tied into the CoP program.
