Load at Census

The final load figures are now known for the faculty both for T3 and for the year following the Nov. 17 Census. HASS load was 427 EFTSL in T3, which while it is the largest T3 load in the institution is still about 9 EFTSL down on last year. Commencing load was up 30 EFTSL in T3 and 62 EFTSL on the year. For the year, HASS recorded 1707 EFTSL, about 81 EFTSL down on last year. Education recorded 408 EFTSL in T3, about 42 EFTSL up on last year. Commencing load was up 30 EFTSL in T3 and 81 EFTSL on the year. The full year load in Education was 1958 EFTSL, about 98 EFTSL up on the previous year. Enrolments for 2026 currently sit at 456 EFTSL for HASS and 398  EFTSL for Education.

Assessment Architecture

The Assessment Architecture implementation is coming to a close, with the Education SEC having passed the requisite unit amendments. A further SEC will be held in HASS to complete the process on 15 December. A huge vote of thanks to the Course Coordinators, relevant unit coordinators, School SECs, the Heads of School (who need to support all the  unit amendments prior to SEC), my fellow ADTL, and the CAM teams for the huge volume of work undertaken to achieve this goal. We will monitor 2026 with interest to see how the new assurance process works, and adjust accordingly.

Unit Commendations

The T2 Unit Commendations have arrived, with 64 units recognized across the Faculty for Overall Student Satisfaction of 4.5 or above, 24 in Education and 40 in HASS. Certificates for these will follow shortly.

High Performing Students

We’ve experimented this trimester with individually contacting students who are within 24 CP of finishing their degrees and maintaining a credit average or above to encourage them to consider Honours. To try to break through the email deluge, letters were sent via the post, personalized to the individual student. Many thanks to Sue Saltmarsh, Nathan Wise, Shirley Rickards, Cindy Mounter, and the rest of the HASS professional staff for help with this process.

On-Campus Classes

A survey is now being circulated to assess student experiences and desires regarding on-campus provision of classes in Armidale. We’re trying to gauge three main things: the pressures on students based in Armidale which might affect attendance at classes, the current experiences of students with on-campus activities, and their ideal models of class provision. We’re hoping that we’ll gain information that will help us to ensure we’re providing students with what they need, as well as boosting numbers in classes.

International Online Students

As mentioned in the last newsletter, UNE is opening up a number of courses to international students who would like to study online at a capped price. The current confirmed offerings are:

  • Bachelor of Criminology
  • Bachelor of Media and Communication
  • Master of Applied Linguistics

If this programme is successful, we will be looking to expand the offerings with a focus on those courses which have no mandatory intensive schools or Australian accreditation requirements.
