Promoting HASSE through community/industry engagement

As discussed in our April HASSE Faculty Forum, we’re developing a community/industry focused print magazine [which will also be available online] which we’ll distribute throughout NSW. The idea here is to provide people/teams/groups throughout the Faculty with an opportunity to promote an aspect of their work, with the view to inviting engagement and collaboration from community/industry stakeholders.

The best place to start thinking about this is on the Web Form we’ve created to support this, which can be found here.

The Web Form will ask you some guiding questions that invite you to think about what it is you’re trying to achieve, who you’re hoping to work with, and what the benefits of that work will be. In doing so, keep in mind that our view is that the publication may be in circulation for the next few years, so consider something that will still be engaging readers through 2026, 2027, and possibly beyond.

So, please take some time to look over that form, and select an area of your work and an audience that you’d like to engage with. For example:

  • Perhaps you have some ideas for a research project, and you’d like to invite community members to come and work with you.
  • Perhaps you’d like to attract more PhD students to UNE, and you’d like to celebrate your research achievements and the type of projects you’d like to supervise .
  • Perhaps you’ve excited about the developments in one of your units, and you’d like to promote that, as a way to excite people about the unit, and about a broader program of study at UNE.

HASSE Concept Brief

I also highlighted the new HASSE Concept Brief at the April HASSE Faculty Forum. This is another Web Form that we can use to collate submissions on various projects and activities. The Concept Brief form can be found here.

Submissions to the Concept Brief may include:

  • Proposals for Short Courses.
  • Requests for Strategic Funding over $10k [requests under $10k should be directed to your School].
  • Requests for Faculty review/approval of Minor Strategic and Operational Projects [per PDG Project Approval Governance].

In all cases, submission will be brought to regular HASSE FXC [held every fortnight] to be assessed. This will add a degree of openness and transparency, and reduces the risk of perceived/potential conflicts of interest in Faculty decision making processes.
