Farewell

  • Associate Professor Mitch Parkes has decided to retire, effective 5 January 2024. We wish Mitch well in his retirement and travels with Gen. Mitch began work at UNE in the School of Education in 1999 and five years ago was seconded to the Teaching Transformation team as a Program Director, Academic Development.
  • Associate Dr Jo Anderson departs UNE on 12 January 2024. We wish Jo well in her new role with the University of Adelaide as an Associate Professor in Inclusive Education. Jo began with the School of Education in 2015, securing a full time position in 2016, going back to her Assistant Principal role in 2017, to return in a full time capacity in 2019. Jo has been a lecturer in Inclusive Education and Head of Department for Globalisation, Leadership and Policy.
  • Farewell to Bec Forge, who worked in Professional staff team for a few years – we wish her well in her role in HASS.

Welcome

  • To Cameron Urqhart who secured a permanent position with the Professional staff in the School of Education.

Moving to E11

2023 AARE conference

Congratulations to the Early Childhood Team. Lisa Bugden was named the ASCILITE 2023 The Inaugural Anthology Educational Designer of the Year Award, in memory of Allan Christie, for the design of the new Early Childhood course (see below).

  • Dr Cat Volpe: “It does not prepare you for the actual curriculum taught in schools”. Perspectives of graduate teachings on their readiness to teach primary and secondary geography.

  • ASCILITE – free membership for all in the university, please complete this form – join a SIG, social media, monthly newsletters, webinars, research schools, CMALT, TELAS, AJET, mentoring – community and women in academic leadership, grants, awards, bursaries, peer-assisted learning and AJET. 
  • PPDR – Please start thinking about your 2024 goals and begin meeting with your Head of Department. Ensure you discuss Teaching, Research and Service/Leadership outlining SMART Goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timebound).
