How women are still suppressed by societal norms:
Stigma for women about premarital sex, but not for men,
Bridal veils and white for women (but not men) when getting married,
High heels, makeup, corsets, bras, nylons, veils, more cosmetic surgery,
Covering chest in public required,
Title usually reflects marital status (e.g., Mrs.),
Less likely to be elected or named to a leader position,
More likely to be criticized as a leader for being too tough or too soft,
More likely to be victimized by domestic violence and sexual assault,
More often viewed as sex objects,
Paid less for same work,
Do the most home tasks and child care when cohabiting,
Disrespected more than men.
On the bright side, women can now vote, go to university, hold jobs, enter into contracts, own real estate, join the military, live independently, raise children outside marriage, divorce, run for office, and lead organizations.
