Attention, please

I just read many articles in New Philospher magazine about attention and distraction. Here are my conclusions:

First, attention is good for getting things done, for staying safe, and for keeping aware of what is happening inside and outside us.

Second, multitasking is difficult and reduces efficiency on each task.

Thrid, there are many distractions these days, thanks to cell phones and the Internet. Social media and mass media specialize in keeping our attention by changing content continually, presenting us with dramatic information and images, and giving us many choices.

Fourth, distraction can be useful when a person is trying to deal with temporary phsical or emotional pain. Prolonged distraction, however, can lead us to avoid tackling important problems, including bad situations and negative emotions.

What are your thoughts about attention and distraction?

  1. Distraction is helpful but if too enticing for too long causes attention delays in real-life decision making and action that may have detrimental effects.
