UNE SMART Region Incubator will host Design Thinking Expert Natalya Thakur (trained at D-School, Stanford) next Thursday 19th July for a full day workshop built around identifying and exploring the needs of regional startups.

UNE staff and students, Startups and Future Founders with UNE SMART Region Incubator as well as the broader regional community have a unique opportunity to participate in an eight hour workshop next week as part of a Regional Insights Design Thinking Workshops tour of NSW.

Coming from San Francisco where she works with BlackRock’s Digital Wealth team focusing on making investing more accessible, Natalya Thakur runs the Design Thinking program amongst a long list of other roles.

The workshop in Armidale is one of only three to be delivered in the country, with a focus on regional startups and service providers. A similar workshop will be held in Dubbo, with a smaller group taking part in a shorter workshop at the Sydney School of Entrepreneurship at the end of the week.

The program has been brought together through the collaborative work of Jillian Kilby, recipient of the 2018 NSW/ACT AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award. As part of this award, a Regional Startups Insight Study will be undertaken, which includes the Expert in Residence Design Thinking Workshops.

The objectives are: (1) help Future Founders or Startups overcome a hurdle they are facing, (2) capture insights to help incumbent Service Providers continue to improve on the services they offer. The workshops involve partnership from NSW/ACT AgriFutures™, The Exchange Dubbo Pty Ltd, Rural Women’s Award, Sydney School of Entrepreneurship, UNE SMART Region Incubator, The Upstairs Bathurst, Dubbo Regional Council and The Infrastructure Collaborative.

The workshops will challenge participants to form teams and work on a problem shared by a Future Founder or Startup in the group, and beyond the experience of building a real solution to a real life problem, each participant will leave the workshop with a Design Thinking toolkit.

Jillian Kilby will join Natalya for a more casual evening event in town, where each will share their personal stories, take questions and lead into an opportunity for attendees to build their networks.

As always, UNE SMART Regional Incubator is thrilled to be part of supporting and growing innovative thinking and action, working with an amazing list of partners and further fostering the development of an entrepreneurial mindset in regional NSW.
