Dr Sujana Adapa and Professor Alison Sheridan have just returned from the 2017 Academy of Management (AoM) conference held in Atlanta Georgia. This year’s theme At the Interface, and the conference attracted more than 10 000 members from over 100 nations. AoM is the premier international conference for scholarship and teaching about management and organizations.
With colleagues from Curtin University, University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University and Macquarie University, Sujana was an organiser for the Professional Development Workshop Practical Strategies to Support Women’s Research Success. The workshop prompted lively discussion and the sharing by participants about what strategies worked to support their research activity.
This was Alison’s first year in the five year leadership cycle for the Gender and Diversity in Organisations (GDO) division. As incoming program chair, she is looking forward to the challenge of preparing the scholarly program for 2018. With Linley Lord, Alison presented their co-authored paper (with Anne Ross-Smith) ‘Changing Boundaries: Women, boards and gender capital in Australia’, in the session on board diversity. With papers from China, the US and Norway, the ensuing discussion provided opportunities to see where gaps in the international space and scope for future collaborations. She was also the recipient of a GDO Division 2017 Outstanding Reviewer award.
