This year UNE Business School submitted its third Sharing Information Progress report to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). Submitted every 18 months, the report demonstrates our ongoing commitment to meeting the requirements of the six PRME principals. These cover the enactment of the PRME purpose and values in our curriculum, pedagogy, research, partnerships and dialogue. Highlights in the report include:
- Units addressing sustainability issues directly such as MM322 Business Ethics, globalisation and sustainability and Econ 121 Environment and Food: Economic Perspectives.
- Increasing high school students awareness of sustainable and inclusive worlds through the Agrifood experience day and the UNE Business Challenge.
- Research relevant to PRME:
- Australia’s Carbon Pricing Policy Strategies
- CRC Remote Economic Participation
- Institute for Rural Futures which researches the social, economic and environmental impacts of change.
- Partnerships continue with UNE Business School’s continued representation on the Northern Inland Sustainable Business Network steering committee; events through the Armidale Business Chamber, the Institute for Public Accountants (IPA) and Boyce Chartered accountants. International partnerships allow for study tours to China.
- Dialogue through UNE Business school seminars and events such as hosting the Australian and New Zealand Society for Ecological Economics in 2015.
Dr Belinda Gibbons from the University of Wollongong continued her excellent work as the Australia/New Zealand chapter coordinator, hosting telephone conferences and the 2016 PRME conference in Melbourne. She has flagged that “2017 is the 10th Anniversary of PRME and it is important that we celebrate the PRME Aus/New Zealand Chapters progress made to date and look into the next phase of the PRME initiative in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”. There will be special 10th anniversary ANZ conference in March or April next year.
I will continue to be the PRME coordinator in 2017 – Ms Valerie Dalton
