An exciting new offering from UNE Business School seeks to equip students with a fresh new Design Thinking skill set. The 6 week unit gives students the opportunity to work with industry leaders solving real industry challenges in Trimester 3, running as unit BUS399/599 and counting for 6 credit points towards a huge variety of degrees.

In November this year, Nucleate will focus on the medicinal cannabis industry to work on the challenge: ‘How might we build this new industry in Australia so that there are maximum benefits for Australian patients?’

Medicinal Cannabis is emerging as a fast moving industry in Australia with capacity to create a major new export market and jobs within regional areas. OzMedicann Group is a patient-centred health care company at the forefront of identification, discovery and development of new technologies in the Medicinal Cannabis industry.  OzMedicann Group has a research relationships with UNE and is proud to be introducing students to a deep dive into this emerging industry through Nucleate.

Nucleate is offered in T3 only and is a 6-week unit, with a 2 day intensive in Armidale and then the next four weeks online, finishing mid- December 2018.

Working at the people-end of technology, Alice Howard-Vyse brings a wealth of experience applying a creative human-centred design approach to projects of all sizes: from innovative digital start-ups and physical products to large-scale digital transformation initiatives for Government.

Whatever the scale, Alice is committed to designing thoughtful products, services and organisations that make human-sense, applying the sum of her expertise in user research, service design and digital tech to bring innovative ideas to life. She is prone to working with pioneers and visionaries on projects with a wide-reach and committed to using her skills to make the world a better place: on- and offline.

Tida Tippapart is a creative strategist passionate about emerging tech, design and culture for social impact. Whether it be looking at the possibilities of augmented reality, new digital economies or the latest in building social networks, Tida’s work is situated in a purpose-led economy.

She has worked alongside cultural instigators from award-winning brands and institutions in Australia and the United States, this includes The University of Technology Sydney, US Consulate, Vivid Ideas, Oxfam Australia, Huffington Post, PBS/ Art21 and Animal Logic. Her work combines co-design methodologies, lean startup tactics and design thinking principles to help get ideas off the ground faster.

Tida is passionate about developing strategies and tactics for bold businesses to launch new projects, reach new audiences, and build communities to have a positive social impact. She has hunger for supporting the growth of inclusion and diversity in startups and emerging tech.

Nucleate offers undergraduate and postgraduate students a unique chance to work together; the assessment is real, it is what you discover and the ideas you pitch back to industry.

We know that students enrolling will be those who want to work on industry challenges that matter, they’re curious and keen to learn about how to solve industry challenges and use design thinking methodology, a skill set that industry is tooling up in. Even more excitingly, students will work with students from other degrees like business, psychology, health, agriculture, technology, science, education, languages, history, and theatre, building networks throughout the university and beyond. It truly is a unit for everyone!
