One of the most successful Open Days in recent years was held on Friday 6 May, with a record number of prospective students in attendance.
More than 1,200 prospective students registered with UNE on the day, which is an increase of 17% on 2015. Lazenby Hall was filled with chatter and questions as the Schools were able to showcase their degrees and offerings. UNE Business School was well represented by a rotation of staff – special thanks go to the following staff for their time spent at our School stand:
Accounting and Finance: Kamaljeet Sandhu, Bernice Kotey, Subba Reddy Yarram, Ashfaq Khan, Michelle Goyen and John Anderson.
Economics: Shawn Leu, Stuart Mounter, George Chen, Rene Villano and Derek Baker.
Management: Allistair Hall, Kay Hempsall, Jenny Rindfleish, Sujana Adapa and Lou Conway.
In addition to hosting the stand in Lazenby, UNE Business School hosted 160 High School Students for “Hot Shots Big Data”, a 30 minute session put together to give students a taste for how big data is transforming businesses and the role of being a manager.
The session was designed and delivered by four highly talented students, Conrad Rees (BEc Hons), Tenita Compton-Carballo (BBus), Teresa Fox (BAgribusiness) and Alex O’Connor (BBus/BLaw) who used Kahootz to create an experience of making decisions in business based on data being gathered. Many thanks to Dr Peter McClenaghan assisted in the co-ordination of this great interactive session to ensure our future business students got a compelling sense of the possibilities of a UNE Business School degree.
The session was widely applauded by high school students who also engaged in some great questions of our students about what it is like to study in the Business School.
Our students spoke about their opportunities to be part of IFAMA, international study tours and the social and academic benefits of college life.
We look forward to reconnecting with some of these bright young minds as our new wave of students in 2017!
