UNE FutureCampus have been lucky to work with Parramatta Chamber of Commerce, hosting a dynamic series of Business Before 9 events in 2016.

The second event was recently held on Thursday, 19 May from 7am – 8:45am and offered business owners in the Greater Western Sydney area the opportunity to hear from UNE Business School’s Dr Shawn Leu, Senior Lecturer, who spoke to the recently announced 2016 Federal Budget in light of his area of expertise, macroeconomics.

His presentation delved into common misunderstandings around budget deficit, took a closer look at the 2016 election promises of Jobs and Growth and also gave some meaningful history to budgetary issues around deficits, including some enlightening comparisons on a global scale.

Small business owners were able to consider bigger picture effects of changes to taxation as planned for the next 10 years, with particular attention paid to implications of these changes around questions of innovation and job creation. Dr Leu provided his audience some clear explanations and thinking points around some of the government’s strategic moves regarding promised and proposed changes to taxation for small businesses.

Dr Leu beamed in from UNE’s campus in Armidale to share his presentation, which was followed by talks from business professionals on the ground in Parramatta who spoke to further key interests of small businesses in the budget, including some informative discussion around changes to superannuation. The event was an excellent opportunity to mix breakfast and coffee with some valuable networking, and to come away with some excellent additional knowledge with which to consider budgetary stances of our local members in the upcoming July 2 election.

UNE Business School are pleased to share Dr Shawn Leu’s presentation: “Who Can You Trust?” with those of you who missed out on this event. Keep your eyes out for the next Business Before 9 on 18 August 2016 – check the events calendar for further details.
