The last weekend in June saw UNE Business School’s Associate Professor Rene Villano host a group of Filipino alumni at UNE for an impromptu reunion. Rene shares

It was a great time to reminisce on their time in the former Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Department of Econometrics, and a great opportunity to discuss future research collaboration.

  • George Varua, who completed a Graduate Diploma, is now working as Finance Manager, Centre for English Teaching – University of Sydney
  • Maria Varua, who completed a Master of Economics and PhD – Economics, is now working as an Associate Professor – Western Sydney University
  • Our own Associate Professor Rene Villano, who completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics (Hons), and a PhD with UNE
  • Franklin Soriano, who completed a Master of Economics and is a current PhD candidate, is now working as an Assistant Director – Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • Josephine Martin, who completed a Graduate Diploma and then a Master of Economics, is now working as a Planning Officer, LGU – Philippines, and
  • Arlene Garces Ozanne, who completed a Graduate Diploma and then a Master of Economics, is now working as a Senior Lecturer, University of Otago.
