As the next Intensive School period approaches (June 17-30, prior to the start of Trimester 2), UNE staff have put together some helpful information to complement our previous Intensive School post, to help ensure that your time in Armidale is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Thanks to the generous support of Student Services & Amenities Fees (SSAF), the UNE Life Team have been able to offer some of the below services to assist you during your stay!

These services will only be available during the official UNE Intensive School period (listed above), and a day either side of this for travel needs.

Travelling between the airport or train station to your accommodation?

Make sure to book in for the free transfer service being offered between the airport or train station and your Armidale accommodation. This service is supported by the UNE Life Advocacy & Welfare Team and we employ current students for this service, so they will be familiar with the student experience.

Please be aware that bookings are essential and must be 24 hours in advance, and that you will need to book your arrival and departure transfers separately.

If you’d like to book an arrival or departure transfer, you can do so here

Once confirmed, you will receive a notification from the system, and a member of UNE Life Advocacy & Welfare will be in touch with you to confirm the details. For larger schools, this service may be in high demand and collection times will vary accordingly.

Getting around Armidale:

Take advantage of the free Intensive School Shuttle. It will operate every morning and afternoon/evening and loops around the campus, Armidale CBD, shops and hotels/motels.

Morning Service: Commencing at 7am and 7.45am, this service stops at designated stops/hotels for an approximate 45 minute round-trip starting from the UNE Directory Board and then proceeding SOUTH along Niagara St/Miller St before arriving at the first stop, Acacia Motor Inn.

Evening Service: Commencing from 4.30pm, this service will run until 10pm (with the last trip leaving UNE at approximately 9.15pm), leaving from the UNE Northern Carpark Bus Stop.

You can view the shuttle route on a computer ahead of your arrival, here. You’ll need to activate the route in the menu and first-time users will need to select the correct route from the options menu and activate both the morning and evening services for the duration of your time in Armidale.

The shuttle is fitted with a tracker and the route and bus location are able to be viewed in real-time by downloading the UNE Safe mobile app and selecting the “UNE Safety Shuttle” tile.

Hungry on campus?

Between 6am-9pm on weekdays and 8am-6pm on weekends, there is always somewhere available to grab a bite to eat or something to drink.

It’s worth noting that with the vast majority of intensive schools all breaking for lunch simultaneously, the cafe can be quite busy regardless of the day, so please be considerate of one another and staff.

  • Cafe Life:
    • Located in the northern section of campus, most students dine here. A selection of sandwiches, salads and hot pre-prepared meals are available, as well as short-order meals, confectionary and drinks.
Monday to Friday opening hours: 7.30am to 4pm
Weekend opening hours (Saturday June 22nd, Sunday June 23rd, and Saturday June 29th only): 8am to 2pm
  • Booloominbah Collection:
    • Booloominbah Collection is housed in the impressive Booloominbah Homestead, central to the Academic Campus. Here, you will find sit-down meals with various substantial options, and a salad/hot-food buffet.
Monday to Friday opening hours: 7.30am to 3pm
  • Cafe 77:
    • Located in the W77 Integrated Agriculture building, Café 77 is a kiosk-style café offering hot and cold beverages, and a selection of sandwiches and other small items you will find in the larger outlets.
Monday to Friday opening hours: 8am to 2pm
  • SportUNE Cafe:
    • SportUNE Café is located immediately beside the SportUNE kiosk, between the residential colleges and the academic campus and is open during centre hours. They offer hot and cold beverages and a selection of sandwiches, wraps, rolls, and cakes.
Monday to Friday opening hours: 6am to 9pm
Weekend opening hours: 8am to 6pm

Lost on campus?

Navigating around campus can be confusing, so we recommend downloading the Lost On Campus mobile app or bookmarking the website in preparation for your visit. Lost On Campus can help you find your building or lecture theatre by building name or number on a virtual map, which features geolocation services.

You’re also always welcome to pop into UNE Life HQ, adjacent to the Northern Carpark of UNE and near the Cafe. From here, the team can point you in the right direction and provide a hard copy map of campus, as well as answer any questions you might have during your time here.

Parking:

There are several carparks on campus and the university has a paid-parking scheme. Weekly passes for students are $15 and can be purchased at the pay-machines located within each carpark, by following the instructions printed on each unit.

During intensive school periods, UNE Life Safety, Security & Information will have an increased presence in major carparks to assist students who might have difficulty. These staff will be wearing blue shirts and will be identifiable by the UNE Life or the Safety, Security & Information logo. They will be happy to assist you with parking, or any other safety & information matters.

If you have any queries about UNE Life services, please don’t hesitate to email unelife@une.edu.au and the UNE Life Team will assist you!
