The University of New England is pleased to announce the appointment of Radha Thomas as Director Governance and University Secretary.

Radha has over 20 years’ experience developing and managing the delivery of a diverse range of complex, sensitive and high-value strategic initiatives and projects at leading Australian and UK universities. Her previous roles have spanned strategy, operations and governance including as Chief Operating Officer and Company Secretary at ANZSOG and Portfolio Director, Strategy & Culture in Chancellery, at the University of Melbourne.

Previously Radha has contributed to significant initiatives such as supporting the independent panel for the Review of the Australian Public Service and the reform of the Federation Taskforce and the National Cabinet. She has also collaborated with the Queensland Treasury Corporation to develop a governance and leadership framework for the Southeast Queensland region.

In addition to the role, Radha was attracted by UNE’s strong reputation for teaching quality, research impact, and alumni success. She is inspired by UNE’s ability to deliver significant outcomes relative to its size and is excited to contribute to the University’s future success as part of the leadership team.

Her interest in Armidale was sparked by its history, including its role in the New England New State movement, and deepened during a recent visit where she and her family discovered the region’s rich Indigenous heritage, vibrant culture, and stunning geography.

Radha will commence her role on 13 January 2025.
