Frank Fisher had a long association with the University, both as a graduate and member of Council and other University governing bodies.

His career in education in NSW spanned 1959-1995 with his final appointment being Assistant Director-General North West Region NSW Department of School Education 1990-95. He continued work as an Education and Management Consultant from 1995-2001. His career was firmly grounded in public school education in NSW and the ACT. He was a well-respected teacher and administrator and took on the responsibility for establishing a new high school at Canowindra while also assisting with the development of other new school designs. He was instrumental in extending senior secondary education to remote communities in North West NSW, and, at a policy level, involved in Aboriginal Education and financial management of the NSW Department’s budget. He was a member of the New England Institute of TAFE’s Council for 6 years.

He contributed significantly to the governance of the University as a member of UNE Council from 1992-2001 and as Deputy Chancellor from 1997-2001; he was also a Board member of the Faculty of Education, Health and Professional Studies for a number of years and Chair of the Co-operation Committee, Education Faculty form 1983-1991.

While living in Tamworth, he was a member of the Board of Management of St Andrew’s Retirement Village, a large, highly-successful multi-function facility for aged care. He was an active member of Rotary, which included a stint as President, Rotary (Mornington) form 2004-05. He became a Paul Harris Fellow in 2006.
