Some complain that Armidale is cold, but UNE PhD student Kirsten Drew has just returned from a research trip at a location much, much colder. Kirsten was on Macquarie Island, about halfway between New Zealand and Antarctica, where she was assessing whether the chemical tools of modern agriculture can be used to control weeds on the island without damage to the pristine environment. She returned with a new appreciation of balmy Armidale, and a camera full of images from Australia’s deep south.
