School of Health students in Nursing have linked up with 900 University at Buffalo (UB) students from multiple professions – health, social work, law and management –  to learn more about international best practices in tackling current opioid and ICE epidemics.

The forum included a clinical simulation where the different disciplines had to develop a treatment plan for a fictional patient; driving home the idea that quality, patient-centred, cost-effective health care requires collaboration among all professions.

The international collaboration came about after Prof. Cynthia Stuhlmiller, who is currently in Buffalo for research, invited Nursing students to participate in the forum entitled ‘Confronting Opioid Dependence: An Interprofessional Strategy’ which was held at UB this week.
