This week UNE hosted the first-ever hybrid mode ASCILITE conference. Professor Sue Gregory and Professor Steven Warburton co-chaired the UNE organising committee to produce a dynamic, sector-leading event. ASCILITE is one of the key professional bodies and conferences in the educational technology space, and UNE has hosted it for two years running – a first for the organisation, and UNE also broke new ground last year by running its first-ever fully virtual conference in the midst of nation-wide COVID restrictions.
Held over 3 days, the conference combined a boutique face to face attendance model with a vibrant virtual stream that allowed delegates to connect in from anywhere in the world. The Digital Education team ran the virtual stream of the conference, hosting multi-stream webinars, virtual social spaces and chairing and facilitating sessions. We also had a number of Digital Education staff presenting our work in the program, along with staff from other areas showcasing UNE work more broadly.
Some key stats from the conference:
- Over 300 delegates attending across both the face to face and virtual streams
- Over 170 concurrent participants in some virtual streams
- 95 presentations
- Delegates from 9 different countries
