Abstract

The Advanced measurement technologies for globally competitive Australian meat (ALMTech) research program has been developing and testing technology that a farmer could use at critical times in their business to have new or more precise information about a live animal’s fat and muscle specifications. Such data could inform subsequent changes in the production system to improve the proportions of animal output meeting particular processor specifications and achieving price incentives. The ultimate outcome would be to make possible tighter distributions of yields and quality measures to better meet the price grid. A tighter distribution of net benefits would result. In this paper, an approach is outlined to address this issue and some preliminary results are reported.
