Vision Australia x UNE Access & Inclusion Team, Partnership Event

Do you have or do you know someone who has a vision Impairment?

Would you like to learn about the latest assistive technology?

Do you use JAWS screen reading software?

Next week, Vision Australia will be visiting our Armidale Campus for a mini symposium hosted by Student Access & Inclusion

This will run on Wednesday 11th September from 10:30am in the Letters Room, Dixson Library which is on Level 2 of the library. 

Following the presentation, the Vision Australia Team will also have a variety of technologies available to check out in person, including several of the below which will be covered in the presentation;

  • Magnification devices including desktop, handheld, tablet-based, and laptop connectable magnifiers;
  • Audio and reading devices such as the Clear Reader Plus, Omni Reader and Victor Reader;
  • Screen readers such as JAWS (Job Access with Speech) and NVDA (Non-visual Desktop Access);
  • Braille devices, including Refreshable Braille displays like the Focus 40 and Brailliant 14, and Braille Note-takers such as the BrailleNote Touch and BrailleSense Polaris
  • Wearable technologies including the OrCam, Iris Vision and AIRA Remote Assistance.

About the presenters:

Damien McMorrow via Video Conference – Access Technology Product Owner, Service Innovation, Vision Australia

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Information Technology from Griffith University Damian McMorrow has spent over 23 years in the I.T. industry in a variety of roles, from running his own Adaptive Technology business, through to managing technical and service delivery teams across the Education sector. During this time, he has relied upon Adaptive technology and equipment to help overcome a wide range of barriers and issues.  Damian then brought his experience and passion for Technology to Vision Australia, previously as an Access Technology Specialist, where he assisted clients in the use of technology for work, education, travel and leisure, and currently as national Access Technology Product Owner, which is the lead role for our Access Technology Service.

Andreas Buchmueller – Presenting in person, Access Technology Specialist, Vision Australia.

Andreas’ background is in Occupational Therapy, which is a perfect fit for the Access Technology Specialist role as OT is all about enabling people to achieve their functional goals after disease, injury or living with disability.  

Some of the technologies we will cover during the presentation includes:
