UNE students, alumni and staff are bringing the Bard to the stage next month in a bold and entertaining take on Twelfth Night, presented by the Armidale Drama and Musical Society.

Directed by UNE Life’s Nick Troon, a recent Bachelor of Arts graduate, the production runs from 4 to 12 July at the Michael Hoskins Creative Arts Centre, TAS.

“This high-energy farce will have you in laughs and tears as we explore themes of gender, sexuality, passion, desire and identity,” Nick said.

Set on the fictional island of Illyria, Twelfth Night follows shipwrecked Viola as she disguises herself as a man, only to be swept up in a tangled love triangle. Along the way, the audience meets an ensemble of fools, puritans, drunks and schemers all trying—often unsuccessfully—to get what they want.

Behind the scenes and onstage, the production features a strong UNE contingent, including current students, staff and alumni.

To coincide with the show, a podcast episode will be released in collaboration with TuneFM under the title Behind the Curtain with Nick Troon.

  • On Thursday 12 June, Nick interviews three of the show’s leads: Amy Showell (Armidale community), Melissa Hawthorne (UNE student), and Dominick O’Shea (UNE alumni and staff).
