UNE People & Culture has completely revised the Performance Planning, Development and Review (PPDR) to make it more fit-for-purpose and easier to navigate.
The new process, which is being introduced this month, better recognises the unique nature of each person’s work and their aspirations, and better draws out each individual’s potential to contribute to the University.
“By more clearly linking the day-to-day work of staff to the University’s organisational priorities, the new process makes it easier for staff to understand how they can meaningfully contribute to their immediate area, and to the benefit of the University as a whole,” said Pat Crick, Associate Director of Workforce Capability, Inclusion and Business Partnering, who led the P&C review.
“This in turn enables better recognition of effort, and a better understanding of how individual professional development opportunities can be sought and delivered.”
The revision also streamlines how the process works, and clarifies how employees and managers can work together towards mutually satisfactory outcomes. A series of supporting documents have been developed to help staff and their managers work with the new process.
At the heart of the process is a new PPDR Plan. Development of the plan during PPDR discussions establishes a basis for conversation around performance, and the professional and career development required to support that performance.
Recognising that one size does not fit all, the new PPDR comes in four types focused on different aspects of UNE employment. They are:
- Academic employees in alignment with the Academic Workload Model;
- Professional employees;
- English Language Centre employees; and
- Employees on Common Law contracts.
For those with questions about the revised PPDR process that are not answered in the supporting material on the PPDR web page, P&C’s Workforce Capability & Inclusion Team is holding drop-in sessions to address queries and concerns.
