Yesterday, around 150 people gathered on the lawns of Booloominbah to farewell UNE’s long-serving Chancellor, James Harris. James has served on the University Council for 30 years, including a decade as Chancellor and seven years as Deputy Chancellor. Deputy Chancellor Jan McClelland AM and Vice-Chancellor Chris Moran both praised his dedication and loyalty to the University, his quiet philanthropy, his commitment to students, and his involvement in many graduation ceremonies.
During his time with UNE, James served on various committees, including the Audit & Compliance; Finance; Standing; and Honorary Degrees, Titles & Tributes committees. He also chaired the Buildings & Grounds Committee and Audit & Compliance Committee.
With more time now, James plans to travel, read, and perhaps even write a book about his experiences on Council.
I thought James was also connected to the White family. I was pleased to catch up with him at the Alumni dinner. I was acting post-grad rep on the first council with him..
