How have humans evolved and what are we becoming now?
That is the fascinating questions up for discussion at Skeptics In The Pub on November 19 by Uralla-based polymath, Adam Blakester.
“Our understanding of biology and what makes us human has grown profoundly in recent decades as a result of extraordinary breakthroughs in genetic sciences and technologies,” Adam said.
“Thanks to science, we can see deeper than ever before into our ancient genealogical story.
“At the same time, we have greater power to control our future by changing ourselves and our way of living. These changes are profound and they are happening fast.
“We now have powerful bio-technologies to intentionally modify and evolve our genetic and epigenetic qualities.”
Since relocating to Uralla 19 years ago, Adam has worked in sustainability. He currently works for the NSW Government; on proto rights-of-nature Murray Darling Basin projects.
Prior to this, Adam was CEO of the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect.
This followed a decade of global and international finance, strategy and media roles with Greenpeace.
Adam holds qualifications in accounting, law, and leadership – though is overwhelmingly self-taught.
His focus for the last seven years has been on evolutionary sciences and technologies.
“As a skeptic, I value facts, knowledge and understanding of what is true,” he said.
“My presentation at Skeptics In The Pub will examine how factual and true are human-kind’s contemporary views about our biological selves.”
Skeptics In The Pub is a free event, open to everyone, and there is no need to book.
Arrive at 6pm. Order and pay for dinner and drinks then settle back for Adam’s presentation, followed by a lively discussion.
