Academics are invited to a one-on-one session with Senior Editor Sunanda Creagh, and Matthew Hall, Deputy Business & Economy Editor, at The Conversation to discuss ideas for articles and how to craft the perfect pitch.

Each individual session will go for roughly 20 minutes and will include:

  • How your current or recent research could form the basis of a story idea
  • Possible evidence-based myth busting article ideas
  • How to craft an “explainer” where you draw on research evidence to explain concepts or ideas not well understood by the broader public
  • Ideas for evidence-based “listicles” or list-based pieces you could do, such as “five reasons why…” or “three ways to….” Or “four policy changes that would help….”
  • When is the right time to pitch and what editors are looking for in a pitch or a story idea
  • The dos and don’ts of pitching story ideas to The Conversation.
  • What to do if your pitch is rejected.

When:  Tuesday 24 September and Wednesday 25 September.
Where: The Marketing Meeting room in the Black Rose Building, UNE Armidale campus.
Register: Please email Estelle Boshoff on media@une.edu.au by 18 September to book a session.
