On behalf of the Chancellor: 

It gives me great pleasure to share with you Council’s recent decision regarding honorary appointments by the University.

The University Council, at its meeting of 31 May 2024, resolved to award the following titles, degrees and awards:

  • The title of Madgwick Distinguished Professor (Research) to Professor Kim Usher in recognition of her expertise and illustrious reputation as researcher in the fields of mental health nursing and Aboriginal health research.
  • A Distinguished Service Medal to Dr Kathryn Dougall in recognition of her extraordinary dedication and long-standing commitment to the provision of the highest quality standards of service to the University and broader research community.
  • An Honorary Doctor of Science honoris causa (HonDSc) posthumously to Ms Brittany Abraham for her scholarly excellence and extraordinary dedication to improving the access and inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander to university study at UNE.

These awards were approved on the basis of the recommendation by the Honorary Degrees, Titles and Tributes Committee.

Please join me in congratulating Professor Usher and Dr Dougall, and acknowledging Ms Abraham’s legacy and important contribution to UNE.
