Today the 2022 Performance, Planning, Development and Review (PPDR) process is being launched. The PPDR allows staff and supervisors to capture the important conversations around performance expectations and quality outcomes

Last year was a ground-breaking year in laying the foundations of PPDR and the process has now been refined to support staff in investing quality time to reflect on achievements and to reset for 2022. It is an important opportunity to build on the great work done in 2021 in line with the business plans and strategic projects that deliver to the UNE Future Fit strategy and to ensure individual goals are closely aligned to Future Fit.

The PPDR process is an activity that every staff member is expected to complete – it ensures what the contributions of each staff member align with the UNE Future Fit strategy and unit business plans. It ensures all are clear on the priorities they should focus on, and expected contributions within and to a team.  It allows all UNE staff to plan their careers and for UNE to also then create development plans to support, mentor and coach staff to succeed.

A range of feedback elements drawn from last year have been used to make the process easier to use, as well as incorporated the user testing experiences by both Professional and Academic staff. The website has been refreshed to ensure an improved range of support tools and guidance to assist with planning and preparations for individual PPDR conversations.

Please also reach out to the designated HR Business Partner for you Division/Faculty /Business Unit if you require further help.

The PPDR process is confidential between a staff member and their line manager.

UNE has recommended a three-step process to be completed across the year, anticipating that Step 1 should be completed in March/early April:

Step 1: Goal Setting

  • Ensure goals are aligned to Future Fit and Business Plans
  • Academic Staff include their Research Outcomes (once approved Research Outcomes should be passed onto DVCR)
  • Performance Measures and Targets agreed
  • Required support and development mapped out – Development should consider use of PDF (Professional Development Fund) and SSP (SSP Special Studies Program)
  • 2022 Leave plans confirmed

Step 2: Progress Check-in should be actioned mid-year

Step 3: Review the year to be finalised by the end of November.

Talking with supervisors is an integral part of goal setting. A personal commitment to developing capability is by association a vital asset to the University and its ability to create agile, responsive teams while building resilience and sustainability.

Conversations with supervisors can be guided by:

Alignment of goals with the Future Fit Portfolios to help the University progress towards its strategic objectives:

  • Digital +
  • People+
  • Place+
  • Sustainability+

Delivering outcomes that align with UNE’s business plans and strategic projects.

Consideration of how individual goals align with the university’s values:

  • Open
  • Enquiring
  • Exceptional
  • Making a difference
