To members of the UNE Community
Dear Colleagues,
You are warmly invited to process at the 2022 Trimester 1 Orientation Welcome Ceremony for new students, which will be held on Monday, 21 February.
This Ceremony has its historical roots in traditional Matriculation ceremonies which celebrated commencing students’ entry into university, and their names being entered into the matricula, or roll, of university members.
This year the Welcome Ceremony allows students who are living on campus or in Armidale to participate in the formal start of their academic career at UNE, and allows UNE to proudly introduce its academic staff to the incoming students.
For our online students, the Procession will be recorded and the video provided online.
We highly encourage you to attend this year’s procession. The procession allows us to launch a 2022 emphasis on: (a) Enactment of Future Fit goals, including; (b) Student-centered education; (c) Vibrant belonging, partnership and student engagement; and (c) Transition pedagogy which supports student retention. To read more about UNE’s renewed principles of student engagement, see this JUTLP publication.
The procession will assemble at 3.15 pm in the carpark of Booloominbah. Please wear academic dress, or, if necessary, contact Campus Essentials on 02 6773 3073 to hire academic dress.
The Welcome Ceremony will be held from 3.30pm to 4.35pm on the lawns of Booloominbah, followed by a BBQ dinner on Graduate Walk to which you are also invited.
The academic procession will join commencing students in a group photograph after the ceremony.
