Professional Staff Development Week proved a hit, with most sessions virtually attended by 30-35 professional staff and often, academics.

Predictably in a time of disconcerting change, the opening session on the future of work was the most popular item on the schedule. The speakers – Lee Atkinson-Barrett, Kasia Baker, Fiona Murphy and Anthony Smith – provided insights into how staff might future-proof their careers. The same megatrends will also affect on UNE’s students.

The session on Udemy for Business was also quite popular as it gave staff a range of tips and tricks for making the most of the platform. A number of staff has since downloaded the Udemy Business app and have started creating learning paths for themselves.

“There is such value in creating space for dialogue and connection for staff across the University to listen and learn from each other,” said Director of People and Culture, Fiona Murphy.

“My thanks to the Organisational Development team for organising and to everyone who participated in the sessions.”

Polls run at the close of each session showed that staff unequivocally found the sessions useful and informative, and hope to see more sessions offered in the future.

In response, Organisational Development is examining the possibility of “lunch and learn” sessions. Development of these sessions will rely on staff submitting ideas for topics and speakers.
