UNE PhD student Nikki Jamieson has been honoured as a finalist in the emerging researcher category of this year’s Suicide Prevention Australia LiFE awards.
Nikki’s research is investigating the relationship between moral injury and suicidality among former Australian Defence Force personnel. A qualified suicidologist, she lost her serviceman son Daniel to suicide in 2014.
“I feel very honoured to be nominated and named a finalist,” Nikki said.
The awards, which recognise outstanding contributions to suicide prevention in Australia, will be announced on World Suicide Prevention Day, on 10 September.
UNE has a long tradition of success in the awards. Past winners of the emerging category award have included Professor Myf Maple, former UNE postdoctoral student Kathy McKay and former UNE PhD student Alison Kennedy.
