Darren Maxwell – Service delivery manager for ITD penned this piece in memory of colleague Rhod (Fish) Carmichael.
It is with sadness that we inform the University Community of the passing of a dear colleague in ITD, Rhod Carmichael.
Rhod lost his battle to Male Breast Cancer in early April.
He had been with the University for a number of years and had developed long-lasting relationships with a considerable number of people, not only within the University Community but locally as well.
Rhod was a true character that will be remembered by those who knew him as a fighter, a firebrand who always spoke his mind, and was above all a good bloke who loved the simple things in life; his family, his job, and a beer and a good laugh with those close to him. Over the past 12 months Rhod displayed an amazing amount of dedication to creating awareness alongside determination and fight in his battle to overcome the disease that has sadly claimed his life.
Rhod wanted to ensure that there is an awareness that, although rare, Men get Breast Cancer. So in memory of Rhod Ladies and Gentlemen … check your breasts Pink and Blue because Men get it too!
Rhod’s family continue to put in an enormous effort to fundraising for the local Oncology and Palliative care units at the Armidale Hospital. These funds provide so much support for so many in the Community.
For those that wish to show their support for local Cancer support services the link is included below.
Rest in Peace Rhod, you will be missed by all.
A campaign in memory of Rhod Carmichael set up to support the Armidale Oncology and Palliative Care units to assist their vital work to our rural community and especially those battling cancer.
