HASS is currently hosting artist in residence and renowned Javanese Gamelan and shadow puppet master Dr Joko Susilo. Dr Susilo has been assisting with the digitisation of the collections, the development of digital teaching and learning resources, and delivering free community gamelan classes at the Wright Centre.
The response to the classes has been very positive with people from diverse backgrounds joining the sessions. Participants have included UNE students, staff, local musicians, and community members, including children and adults.
A free end-of-year concert will take place on 14 December at 6.30 pm at the Wright Centre. The concert will also feature a traditional shadow puppet performance accompanied by the gamelan, poetry, dance and a collaborative recorder piece with Dr Alana Blackburn.
