Staff feedback is being sought about the redevelopment of the Dixson Library.
The library was built in three stages, from 1961 to 1983. Most of the services in the building are from the original 1960s build and have reached ‘end of life’.
The redevelopment seeks to address the ageing infrastructure and services as well as providing an opportunity to activate the Dixson Library as a vibrant hub and showcase of the University, by incorporating the Museum of Antiquities, student services, teaching and learning activities as well as a rotating display of other University collections.
As Australia’s leading online university the scholarly resources held by the Dixson Library will be reviewed to ensure relevancy and accessibility. Library staff will work closely with stakeholders to assess the best way to manage the collections.
The University has engaged James Cubitt Architects (JCA) as design consultants to prepare a Master Plan for the Dixson Library Redevelopment. Initial concept drawings and images have been prepared by JCA as a ‘starting point’.
It is proposed the Masterplan will be undertaken in staged works commencing in 2019.
