Dr Benjamin Thorn, lecturer in creative arts education, has a new book out. Keep the Presses Running: the Australian Printing Industry in the Twentieth Century, will be launched at the United Campus Bookshop UNE on Tuesday 11 April at 4pm by John Jarvis (formerly Head of the TAFE Schools of Graphic Arts and Executive Director of the National Printing Industry Training Council) and A/Prof. Anne-Marie Morgan (Head of the School of Education).
Keep the Presses Running describes the Australian printing industry in the twentieth century largely in the words of people who worked in it. In eight years of extensive research, Dr Thorn interviewed over 70 informants whose involvement in the industry ranged broadly, and whose recollections and observations reveal its culture, social and economic significance, technical processes and interesting participants. The product of these enquiries is an exceptional repository of information about an Australian manufacturing industry that was and is of major importance, and which has been and remains at the leading edge of technological development.
All welcome.
