The science and business potential of lot-feeding cattle came under intense scrutiny by 10 Pakistanis during a just-completed two week visit to UNE and the region.
The USAID-funded visitors – seven entrepreneurs, two vets and a livestock value chain specialist – spent a week at the university learning about the latest science around feedlotting, and another week on the road visiting some of Australia’s most highly regarded operations, including Rangers, Wainui and Kerwee.
The aim of the exchange was to inject fresh knowledge into Pakistan’s meat industry, and lay down the potential to launch new lot-feeding operations based on larger economies of scale and higher efficiency.
UNE’s Professor Roger Hegarty from the School of Environmental and Rural Science and Pete Fitzgerald, Project Officer, International Development, supported the group during their visit.
