Associate Professor Andrew Robson has been named the 2016 winner of the Poggendorff Lecture Award.
Each year, the Royal Society of NSW makes a number of awards, mainly in the field of science, which are among the oldest and most prestigious awards in Australia. Andrew was recongised for his significant contributions to agricultural research, particularly in the use of remote sensing. He will receive his medal at the Society’s annual black-tie dinner event and will present the lecture associated with the award later this year.
The award commemorates the legacy of Walter Poggendorff who was instrumental in establishing the Australian rice industry by developing high-yield crops for Australian conditions and maintaining controls on imports to limit the introduction of serious diseases. This is only the fifth time the award has been presented over the last 30 years with previous awards bestowed in 1987, 1992, 1993 and 2013.
Congratulations to Andrew on his achievement.
Congratulations to Andrew. The UNE community should be proud to know that this is the second Poggendorff award to a UNE academic – viz to me in 1993.
Congratulations, a fabulous achievement I know your family are very proud.
