On Friday, UNE Vice-Chancellor Annabelle Duncan, launched ‘Balancing the Equation‘ – a mentoring program for first year female students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
In Australia, within some of the STEM disciplines, only 33% of graduates are female and only 12% of the associated workforce are female.
But, 75% of the fastest growing occupations now require STEM skills and shifting just 1% of the workforce into STEM roles can potentially add $57.4 billion to the GDP over 20 years.
This mentoring program will assist female UNE students to make appropriate and effective choices in pursuing and achieving STEM-related career goals during and after university.
All first year female students in STEM are encouraged to apply for the program. More information can be found on the website.
