UNE student Sarah Wayland took part in the Trans-Tasman 3MT was held at UWA on Monday 3rd November, 2014. Speakers represented 48 Universities in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. The challenge was to give an engaging and dynamic talk on your research topic and its significance, and communicate this to an intelligent but non-specialist audience, in just 3 minutes.

Sarah’s 3 Minute Thesis was entitled: The stories of hope for families of missing people.  Is hope always present?

Sarah said her experience at the Trans-Tasman 3MT was ‘surreal’.

“Being given the chance to travel to Perth to present my study on the hope experience for families of missing people gave me the opportunity to succinctly capture what I had learnt as well as test drive what it might feel like to give at TED talk one day,” Sarah said.

“I walked away wanting to do it again.”

The winner was Sarah Marley, Curtin Uni: Say what? Coastal dolphins and noisy environments.

Congratulations to Sarah on a fantastic effort representing UNE.

ABC Lateline will be broadcasting a story filmed at the Trans-Tasman 3MT on Wednesday 19 November at 10:30pm.
