UNE-PARG Researcher and lecturer in Computation Science, Dr Greg Falzon won the prestigious Australian Wool Innovation award at the 2015 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry held in Canberra this past week. Greg’s Electronic Shepherd will monitor flock welfare using acoustic listening stations and additional sensors along with automated computer analysis to alert producers if there is a welfare issue with their stock. The system is particularly focused on detecting dog attacks on stock which is a major cause of lost production in our livestock producing regions and compliments other smart wild dog alert work being conducted between Dr Falzon and the CRC for Invasive Animals.
