International Muslims Students’ Association at UNE

The Muslims’ history in New England starts as early as the second half of the 19th century when a number of Afghani Cameleers settled in the region. Some of the descendants of these families still live in the area.

The first Muslims’ Students Association was formed in May 1978, and since that year Friday congregation prayers has been always held in whatever available room at UNE, sometimes in the Economics Building, and at other times it was held in one of the Colleges, or even in a reading rooms in the Dixson library, if no other place was available.

Through out the years, Muslim students who came to study at the University of New England from all over the world have played a remarkable role in developing Islam and the Muslims community in the region. while they came to study and learn but they also had the opportunity to educate and inform about Islam and share his/her culture and ideas with the Australian population at large as well as the Australian Muslim community, thus truly contributing to a world peace, based on understanding and knowledge.

While every student made her/his imprint and contribution, in the following are some examples of past students of UNE.
