The President, Morgan Robins and the Vice-President, Morgan Papas of the UNE Law Student Society recently attended the Australian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) conference. ALSA is a national not-for-profit association which represents Law Student Societies and Law Student Associations.

The ALSA conference covered topics such as branding and promotion in the digital age, member engagement, and organising competitions. The conference provided an opportunity to understand how other Law Student Societies operate and what types of events and activities they host. In the breaks between sessions the delegates practised their networking skills with law students from other universities.

Morgan Robins feels that the conference gave her a number of valuable ideas. ‘I really want to help students with educational support and peer relationships and coming away from the conference I now have a lot more ideas on what to do and the practicalities on what a Law Student Society can realistically achieve.’

Morgan Pappas noted that the conference gave insight into ‘hosting events, such as competitions, and how to better improve student engagement and ways in which the LSS can achieve this. As Vice-President, learning effective management and communication skills means the LSS can develop ideas and plans in order to benefit students and provide them with the best opportunities possible.’

The UNE Law Student Society is currently arranging competitions to be offered later this year. Further details will be posted in the near future.
