Paul and Kristy outside the Supreme Court

Kristy’s interest in studying law was piqued whilst she was employed as a psychologist. She worked with victims of crime and was heavily involved in court proceedings. She saw first-hand how important it is for victims of crime to have adequate support and assistance through emotional and confronting court cases. After consulting with friends who were also studying at UNE, she decided to enrol in in a law degree at the UNE School of Law.

Just like many of the UNE School of Law’s online students, Kristy was able to successfully juggle her studies with being a mum to 4 children. In fact, she was so successful in her law studies that she was invited to do honours. Unsurprisingly, Kristy chose to write about the Safe at Home Program in Tasmania which aims to address family violence.

Kristy’s recent admission as a legal practitioner was a moving and special event. Kristy describes her admission as one of the best days of her life. She was accompanied by her eldest daughter Mikayla who has been inspired by her mum to also study law. Mikayla attended the day as Kristy’s only guest, as the Jensen family strategically decided that the whole family would instead make the trip to Armidale for Kristy’s UNE graduation. One day Kristy is hoping to be able to move Mikayla’s admission, just like Paul Akon did for her.

Mikayla and Kristy had a wonderful weekend celebrating Kristy’s admission in Sydney. They enjoyed a delicious meal with the Akon family before her admission. After the ceremony, the duo stayed at the luxurious Swissotel Sydney, where they indulged in a decadent lunch and a glass of Moet.

Kristy recently began working as a Prosecutor with Queensland Police. She is excited about using her skills and expertise in psychology and law to really make a difference to the lives of people who have suffered as victims of crime. She notes ‘her whole life has been building to this point where she can use all her skills and experience to truly make a difference.’

When Kristy is not working and caring for her children, she enjoys staying fit by going to the gym and also relaxing at the beach. She also likes watching legal and prison based dramas such as Suits, Orange is the New Black and Wentworth. Hopefully, now she has finished studying she will be able to indulge in these ‘guilty pleasures’ more often!

This weekend, Kristy will again be celebrating her graduation with her family. This is Kristy’s first proper visit to Armidale and she is excited about staying at Eldersley Bed and Breakfast in Armidale.

Congratulations to you Kristy and to all the other students who are graduating this weekend!
