I began making videos and posting them on YouTube when I was in undergrad for the behaviour mod unit. More recently, I started posting videos on YouTube after I had shared information with some of my Supervisees about how to become a psychologist, and realised that the information I was sharing with the Supervisees wasn’t common knowledge, but was really important to share with as many psych students or trainees in the 4 +2 program or other post grad programs. And the fastest way to do that was to make a video and put it on YouTube. So that’s when The Psychologist Within was born. I chose that name for my channel because I was thinking about the potential audience, and what I want to share with that potential audience is that we can all have our own psychologist living within ourselves; in Dialectic Behaviour Therapy, Marcia Linehan would call this the ‘Wise mind’.

The overall aim of my channel is to share knowledge about psychology. This knowledge doesn’t have to be gained from paying a Psychologist in person, although it can be helpful to do so. There are now other ways we can help ourselves, and YouTube is one of those places we can do it.

If you’re thinking of making content I recommend thinking of a catchy channel name and making your video thumbnails stand out with short titles that are in big font. Use an app like Canva to make them quickly and easily. Also, don’t be too hard on yourself! If you make a mistake just leave it there. We get better with each video we make.
