To assist with identifying copyright issues with materials delivered in myLearn, we have added a report to the sidebar of each T1 unit. Under the heading “Compliance Reports” you will now find a dynamic report of all PDF documents in the unit with links directly to the relevant location in myLearn.

Prior to T1 units going live to students on Monday, 16th February, please review the list and, where necessary, convert them to be delivered to students via the Reading List System supported by the library.

Under the Statutory Education Licence and our Online Learning Resources Policy, all third-party copyright-protected materials used for teaching and learning must be communicated to students exclusively via the Course Readings System (eReserve).

This is not merely administrative process. It is a legal requirement that ensures we provide equitable remuneration to copyright owners and protect the University from significant risk. Third-party copyright-protected materials must not be uploaded directly to Moodle (MyLearn) or other platforms because they fall outside the scope of the licence and may expose UNE to:

  • Legal risk: Potential copyright infringement
  • Financial risk: Penalties, legal costs, or compensation claims
  • Reputational risk: Damage to our standing with creators, publishers, and the academic community

Using eReserve ensures all usage is tracked and reported correctly, and that students receive materials in a secure, accessible, and compliant format.
