MyLearn continues to introduce new and engaging ways to assess students’ knowledge. One of the latest additions coming in the October release is the ‘Ordering’ quiz question type. This intuitive, interactive question type allows you to assess students’ understanding of sequences, processes, and ordered lists, making it a versatile tool for many subjects.
What is the Ordering Question Type?
The Ordering question type tests a learner’s ability to sequence items correctly. Whether it’s arranging historical events, putting steps in a process in the right order, or ranking priorities, this question type helps gauge a learner’s comprehension of ordered concepts. By presenting a shuffled list of items, students are tasked with dragging and dropping them into the correct sequence, giving them an interactive and engaging experience.
Why Use the Ordering Question Type?
This question type is particularly useful in situations where the order of information is critical. Here are a few reasons why you might choose to include it in your quiz:
- Testing Processes: In subjects like science or business, where processes need to be followed in a specific order (e.g., steps in a lab experiment or stages of a project), this question type ensures students grasp the correct sequence.
- Chronological Understanding: For disciplines like history, it can help assess students’ understanding of timelines by requiring them to arrange events in chronological order.
- Logical Order: In fields such as mathematics or computer science, students can be asked to sequence steps in an algorithm or problem-solving method.
With this level of flexibility, the ‘Ordering’ question type can be adapted to suit a range of disciplines and learning outcomes.
How to Create an Ordering Question in MyLearn
Setting up an Ordering question in MyLearn is a straightforward process:
- Add a New Question: Navigate to your quiz and select ‘Ordering’ from the list of available question types.
- Enter Your Question Text: In the question setup, provide clear instructions for your students, such as “Arrange the steps in the correct order.”
- List the Items to be Ordered: Input the items that need to be sequenced, ensuring they’re listed in the correct order initially. MyLearn will automatically shuffle them for students.
Once set up, students will be able to drag and drop the items until they believe the sequence is correct.

Benefits for Learners
The Ordering question type encourages deeper engagement with course content. Instead of simply recalling information, students must actively think through the relationships between each item. This interaction not only reinforces their learning but also provides a clear, visual way to demonstrate understanding.
With this latest addition to MyLearn’s quiz, you have another powerful tool to create engaging assessments. If you haven’t tried it yet, why not order up some ‘Ordering’ questions for your next quiz?
