As we move into 2024, the technical workstream for Project Uplift is now moving its focus to video systems.

For T1 we will introduce a few changes to video systems, most notable setting Kaltura to “read only” and shifting to echoVideo (new name for Echo360) for the creation and management of ALL video content.

Staff video creation

Instead of a change mid-trimester, as originally planned, we are bringing forward a change to set Kaltura into a “read-only” mode to the start of Trimester 1.

What does this mean for me as a unit coordinator?

Kaltura will be in read-only mode from Trimester 1.

  • Any content already created and located in your Kaltura myMedia library will remain accessible and can be embedded into myLearn.
  • Any content already embedded into myLearn and other pages will continue to be available.
  • Any NEW content will be created in or uploaded to echoVideo from late February.

There will be no change to lecture recordings in teaching spaces nor to the integration with Zoom recordings.

How do I use echoVideo?

If you are a unit coordinator, you can access your echoVideo library from the “Echo360 Library” link in your myLearn profile, or directly from https://echo360.net.au/ . Options are available to upload video or create new video content using a browser client or software client.

Teaching Online has detailed instructions. We will run information sessions and provide more information over the next few weeks.

What will happen to the videos I have in Kaltura and have linked to from myLearn and other systems?

During Trimester 1, we will be copying existing Kaltura content into your echoVideo library and updating embedded links where possible. At this point, please do not move or delete any existing Kaltura myMedia content.

We will share more information on the next steps in the process soon, and work with you on any specific use cases you might have.

Student Assignments

We already mentioned in a previous blog post that students will create and upload video content for video assignments via echoVideo for T1.

This does not change the assignment setup or marking process for unit coordinators and is only a minor change to the student workflow.

In the next few days, the project team will update the support instructions in the Learning Online support site as well as in units that have set up video assignments.

At this stage you don’t have to do anything as a unit coordinator if you use student video submissions in your unit; we will get in touch with you soon with more information.

Please contact projectuplift@une.edu.au if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
