CRDC Scholarship for PhD at UNE

  • A three-year full-time PhD Scholarship, “Characterisation of brassinosteroid effects and brassinosteroid-responsive genes in cotton for growth and stress tolerance enhancement” sponsored by the Cotton Research & Development Corporation (CRDC) is available at the University of New England in Armidale.
  • The CRDC PhD Scholarship will be paid at a fixed, annual rate of AUD30,000/year for three years. If the student has an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), this can be topped up by the CRDC Scholarship making the total stipend approximately AUD40,000/year.
  • Applicants should be Australian citizens or permanent residents and have Honours or Masters level qualifications with some prior knowledge of molecular biology.

Project information: Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a relatively new class of plant hormones that control important agronomic traits such as plant growth and architecture, seed yield and stress tolerance. BR and BR-related genes are thus strong targets for increasing crop yields, especially under suboptimal conditions. An additional effect of BR in cotton is on fiber development and elongation. This project will explore BR-regulated genes and pathways in cotton with the aim of providing useful information towards cotton improvement. The project will be supervised by A/Prof Priti Krishna: http://www.une.edu.au/staff-profiles/ers/pkrishn2

To apply, please contact Dr. P. Krishna at pkrishn2@une.edu.au with a statement of your background and interest in the project, your Curriculum Vitae, and a copy of your undergraduate academic transcripts by March 31st 2015.218164209_Photo014_014
