The CRDC workshop on cotton nitrogen nutrition is taking place in Goondiwindi on the 28th and 29th August. Brendan Griffiths will be presenting a consultants view of the issues whilst Oliver Knox is planning to update the audience on changes in our understanding of N mineralisation in cotton soils.

The cotton industry in the last decade has increased yields, but also increased nitrogen fertiliser use reducing its efficiency, which it is keen to rectify. Recognising the constraints of the system, the challenges to production and where improvements in fertiliser application and timing can be made are central to this process. The cotton industry has improved its water use efficiency by 40% in the past decade and it is hoped that with similar efforts it can do the same for fertilisers.
