Alistair Watson – Freelance Economist, Port Melbourne, aswatson@bigpond.net.au
Abstract
In this paper the long-standing failures of water policy in Australia are discussed. It is argued that the traditional perspective that the nation’s water supplies and droughts are different to other natural, economic, social and political phenomena ensures the continued mismanagement of the nation’s water supplies and its droughts.
Keywords: drought, irrigation, water policy, Murray-Darling Basin
